Mindoro Island, PhilippinesPuerto Galera is located on Mindoro Island, easily reached from Manila via a 2hr drive followed by a 30 – 40 minutes boat ride. This small town is a lively place, with lots of restaurants and bars, but it is the diving that makes this a must-go place for divers.
Offering everything from wide angle to macro, Puerto Galera has over 40 dive sites along its coast, most being easily reached by just a short boat ride. The macro life here rivals that of Lembeh Strait, with blue ringed octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs – the list goes on!
For wide angle enthusiasts there are fabulous reef dives ranging from gentle slopes, sandy patches and canyons, to the stunning reef walls of Verde Island (a full day dive trip that everyone should include in their visit!)
Wreck fans will also be happy diving here, with a few to choose from, each offering shelter to a wide range of marine creatures.
With such an abundance of marine life to be seen, Puerto Galera is a dream for underwater photographers and comes highly recommended.
